Our Craft-Building Series #19–22 — Come Join Us for Behavior, Belief, Bias, and Biomimicry

Curated by: Sean Moffitt, Grey Swan Guild co-founder

“Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire.” W. B. Yeats

On the heels of discussing and playing with the craft of our As over the last week (e.g. Ambition & Drive, Ambiguity & Uncertainty, Attention & Concentration, Adaptability & Flexible Thinking). we tackle the Bs.

Come join us for our next four editions of our craft-building series (editions #19–22) on four different platforms:

Biomimicry & Biophilic Design (CBS #22)

On LinkedIn Live — Friday April 8th, 12pm ET/9am PT

Pre-register here : https://bit.ly/gsgcraftlibiomimicry

“The more our world functions like the natural world, the more likely we are to endure on this home that is ours, but not ours alone.”
Janine Benyus

How does nature inspire us? How do spider webs build our new buildings? how do fungi restore our industrial lands? How do our next planes act like hummingbirds? Let’s channel our inner David Attenboroughs for the sake of systems change, innovation and progress.

Behavior & Attitude (CBS #20)

On Twitter Spaces — Tuesday April 12th, 12pm ET/9am PT

Pre-register here : https://bit.ly/gsgcraft19behavior

“I guess I’m just quite observant and I pay attention to a lot of things. Human behavior really fascinates me.”- Ellie Goulding

What makes us do what we do, and yes sometimes those very insane and erratic things? What experiences, norms, environments and conditioning help shape our attitudes? What are the cognitive, behavioral and affective components to them? What can affect the strength of them? How do we unbound ourselves form the strength of them?

Act now: https://bit.ly/gsgcraft19behavior

Bias & Sterotyping (CBS #21)

On Clubhouse — Thursday April 14th, 1pm ET/10am PT

Pre-register here : https://bit.ly/gsgcraft21bias

“It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into.”― Jonathan Swift

There are over 200 cognitive biases documented, teased out and profiled. We’re sure there are many more. When do we use bias for good? What are some of the more pernicious biases? How do we bias people based on group membership — a stereotype? When is a good to feel part of a tribe, and when does it feel exclusive. Let’s peel the onion on our hidden drivers.

Declare your neutrality of bias: https://bit.ly/gsgcraft21bias

Belief & Dogma (CBS #19)

Mastermind on Zoom — Thursday April 14th, 3pm ET/12pm PT (limited to ten participants)

Pre-register and qualify here : https://bit.ly/gsgcraftbelief

“You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.”― C.S. Lewis

What do we accept as truth? What popular set of assumptions go unquestioned? What do you believe in even if you are alone? Is belief the enemy of intelligence? What elements of belief are adhered to hook line and sinker by our group, our guild, our community, our society? What types of people are more likely to consider and accept unconventional ideas? If you don’t stand for something, will you fall for anything? Who is refusing to look through the modern-day Galileo’s telescope?

The Journey Continues — We Need C Leaders

“The doer alone learneth.” — Friedrich Nietzsche

We have four other Guild members step up and join our Craft Building series as leaders, I see you Alan Hayes, Amy Roche, Gordon Withrow, Jonathan Denn). But with 104 topics, we are looking for more people to populate our worlds.

You simply have to do four things (first come, first serve with the provisos below):

  • declare your interest in a topic to lead and a time (we have one time that remains constant see below) — I have profiled the Cs below that will happen the weeks of April 18th and April 25th — if interested, send a message to info@greyswanguild.org
  • follow the format of the discussion — we try to provide a shared, interactive, informative experience from topic to topic — see the format in our original post
  • we are shepherding learning and providing a forum for knowledge exchange and discussion — pushing a stark individual point of view, proselytizing a proprietary approach or overt selling is highly discouraged and contrary to Guild values, there are indirect and associated benefits to leading these sessions without being a carnival barker or philosophical firebrand
  • be an engaged partner — we can set up the platform and provide the canvas, but hopefully you are stoked enough to promote it, prepare for it, summarize it and add some special sauce

The Cs — Topics and Dates:

These C topics require some experienced and passionate drivers holding the wheel —

  • one of these will be a Linked Live some time on Friday April 19th
  • one of these will be a Twitter Space some time on Tuesday April 26th
  • one of these will be a Clubhouse at 1pm ET on April 29th and
  • one of these these will be a zoom-based Mastermind some time on April 29th.

Drivers are wanted, step up and tell us…first come, first served.

Grey Swan Guild — 50 Shades of … Grey Crafters

If the topics and learnings above intrigue you. you should think about joining our collective ongoing; a post-modern version of guild that tries to make sense of thee world and the future. These are the six things that we do and the six links to exploring/joining below:
